biofuels, bioenergy, renewable energy policy
Profile:
Bettina joined IEEP in November 2010 as a Policy Analyst working jointly with the Climate Change and Energy Programme and the Agriculture and Rural Land Management Programme. Bettina has a PhD in environmental economics from the University of Kiel (Germany). Her research conducted while working at the Kiel Institute for the World Economy included the evaluation of biofuel and bioenergy policies and the effectiveness of energy R&D as well as foreign aid on energy and emission intensities. Bettina has also completed a 5 month traineeship within the Renewable Energy Unit of DG Energy, working specifically on the sustainability criteria for biofuels and the development of action on ILUC. At IEEP Bettina has led and contributed to a range of bioenergy (and more recently bio-economy) related projects.
-
Shifting away from conventional biofuels
The UK has ample potential to use wastes and residues for advanced biofuels and create jobs in this emerging industry – but safeguards are key to ensure this is done in an environmentally sustainable way.
