Profile:
Emma joined IEEP in May 2007. She has a degree in European Studies and French, and spent nine months of her studies as an intern with a UK MEP in Brussels. After graduating she lived in Brussels for six years, firstly undertaking a ‘stage’ in the Secretariat-General of the European Commission. She then worked for the Brussels representations of two UK regions (the East of England and London) on EU environment, transport and energy policy, as well as coordinating their communications work. In addition to working on transport, climate and air pollution issues at IEEP, Emma plays a key role in the coordination of the Institute's EU advisory services.

Review of the Waste Thematic Strategy
This report supported the European Commission’s review of the Thematic Strategy on the Prevention and Recycling of Waste. It summarises available data on waste management in the EU, assesses progress towards the EU becoming a ‘recycling society’, outlines the achievements of the Waste Thematic Strategy, and makes recommendations for the development of future EU waste policies.

Study on Inspection Requirements for Waste Shipments
A report written by IEEP, Bio and Ecologic has examined the challenge of inspection procedures and capacity to implement the EU Waste Shipment Regulation. It notes significant problems in Member States as well as good practice. It concludes with criteria that could be used to form the basis for assessment and enhancement of the capacity of inspectorates.
